Property reported lost includes property that cannot be located by an agency during their internal audit, or it was not located when we conducted the agency property audit; items destroyed due to fire, or by employees or vendors; property stolen that has been reported to the local law enforcement authorities. Legally, it is not the responsibility of the State Auditor to locate lost property and equipment of state agencies, but to report it to the proper authorities including the Governor, Attorney General, Examiners of Public Accounts, Agency Directors and to provide the information to members of the media and the general public.
